The most humourous game I've played in quite a while
The game is about the goof-ball son of a renowned knight who slayed a hydra-looking dragon, but died shortly after. The game starts off about Jack (our main character named after a dog) trying to fill his father's shoes, but in the end it is about making your own destiny and sticking to your integrity despite who or what may come.
The graphics and the sound are rather playful (I enjoy the fact your armor and weapons are seen in battle, even to the point I would keep old armor because it looked cool). The graphics are rather cartoonish and the characters (all 100+ of them) are interesting, unique, and humorous. The sound is what is to be expected from a game from Square-Enix and Tri-Ace.
The gameplay is rather simple (reminds me of Dot Hack in that you only control your character but may issue orders), but is accentuated by the link system which allows your team to attack or defend in a variety of formations. Outside of battle you can attack anyone in the game by "kicking" them (you don't examine things you kick them and you don't knock on doors you punch them) and the cool thing about this is it doesn't hurt anything (unlike Morrowind). Also if you lose against a NPC in this way you are left with one HP so it isn't GAME OVER. The game experiences night and day with the NPCs doing tasks throughout both in the living, breathing world of Radiata.
The storyline is not the most memorable around and you can beat one of the two endings in around 30 hours. The main story doesn't even take hold until around 10 hours into the game, but the side quests in the local mercenary guild will keep you (willingly) going long after that. The game also features a new game plus option as well which allows you to skip all the tutorial stuff and keep some of you items and all your money. Also the new dungeons you get after beating the game are as good as the rest of the game (and 5-15 more hours of playtime).
The main character is the kind of person that if he was real you would hate his disrespectful attitude (he is the kind of person that says what you are thinking) but you can't help wanting to watch this amazingly funny guy as he brazenly takes on the world with a carefree attitude. Try it you'll see.
