Not being a huge fan of Rally games I wasn’t really expecting too much from Rallisport Challenge 2. However after seeing quite a few reviews of the game I found myself looking forward to its release. I certainly wasn’t disappointed! More of an arcade type racer than a simulation, Rallisport 2 offers five different race types for the player to get to grips with including Ice, Hill climb, Crossover, Rallycross (my personal fave), as well as the normal point to point rally races. All of these modes offer a huge amount of tracks as well as vehicles to unlock as you make your way through the single player championship modes. Graphically Rallisport is nothing short of sublime, from the glorious world locations along with some excellent weather effects right through to the dirt and dust, which covers your vehicle during the race. Driving mechanics are arcade based with only subtle, all be it noticeable differences between the various vehicles which in my opinion really adds to the pick up and play element of the game. As well as the huge career mode Rallisport 2 is Xbox Live enabled and this is where the game really excels, allowing up to 16 players to race against each over at the same time. Intelligently any race involving over 4 players is handled by ghosting out the other competitors so as to avoid the game ending up a ‘destruction derby’ type clone and thus taking the emphasis off of the actual racing. All the race types in the single player mode are available online which further adds to the ‘Live’ experience! With up to 230 odd unlockables including 90+ tracks as well as 40+ licensed vehicles Rallisport Challenge 2 is a huge game and one in which anyone with a slight interest in the racing genre should not be without. Highly recommended!!!
