User Rating: 9.6 | RalliSport Challenge 2 XBOX
I picked up a copy of Rallisport Challenge 2 and I haven’t been disappointed… Having never played the original Rallisport I didn’t know what to expect. The game is full of options to get a lot of replay value out of it. Here are some of the highlights: Career Mode (Progress through a series of challenges to unlock new cars and tracks) Full Xbox Live Support (Race on-line against up to 16 people) Tunable car settings (tire selection, gear ratio, suspension, etc) Graphically Rallisport 2 is fantastic. For those of you with High Definition televisions I highly recommend this title. Yes, it’s only 480P with 16x9 support – but playing this game on a large television with 480P is impressive. The car models are excellent – the damage that appears on your vehicle after clipping a tree, guard rail, etc is very realistic. The particle effects are also cool – waterfalls look real pouring over a cliff, your car kicks up dirt as it spins around the track. The track visuals are also excellent – there is a wide variety of tracks in the game from ice racing on a closed track to mountain ascents and rally courses across Australia. They all look impressive – my personal favorites are the mountain ascent/descent courses as the danger of sliding off the track and over a cliff add a certain amount of anxiety to the race. Weather effects are also well implemented – from a clear day to light snow and heavy rain – they all are done well. When your complete the race your able to replay the race and perform the standard camera angle changes, rewind/fast forward, etc – you can also save replays for later viewing. In the audio department – Rallisport Challenge 2 offers Dolby Digital 5.1 support and it’s well implemented. The music variety is enough to not be too repetitive. The audio does a good job changing up based on your environment – your engine sounds different going through a tunnel than out in the open. I haven’t play a ton of Xbox Live matches yet but based on what I have seen it’s well implemented. You can host a race and select from a multitude of options – number of players, track selection, etc. In my experience – I didn’t see noticeable lag on-line that would detract from the fun. In terms of difficulty – I completed the Pro career mode without much of a problem. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to pick up a title and play – it’s not frustratingly difficult. Seem people have commented that it seems too easy (especially career mode) but it’s so much fun it didn’t bother me. I highly recommend this title if you are into racing. I do not consider myself a hard core racing fanatic and Rallisport Challenge 2 has been an addicting title from the moment I first tried it out. It has tons of gameplay options to keep you busy in single player career mode and Xbox Live support for on-line play. Most importantly – this game is just a blast to play. Could it be more difficult – probably? But with so many gameplay options available there is enough here to keep you occupied for a long time.
