3 of the best PS2 games of last gen get the HD treatment but how well does it hold up.

User Rating: 9.5 | Ratchet & Clank Collection PS3
It was only a matter of time when Ratchet and Clank got the HD treatment there platforming buddies Sly and Jak got and plus this is the 10th year when they first blasted there way onto the PS2 in fine style. I shall review each one by one and rate it on how well it holds up.

Ratchet and Clank

The first one released in the year 2002 was Sonys answer to Mario. The story goes an evil dictator wants to take oparts of old planets and make new ones then pollute it for money. Ratchet and Clank first meet on planet Veldin and Ratchet is asked to help Clank find Captain Qwark.

The game is all about collecting cool weapons and gadgets like the Suck Cannon Glove of Doom and Visibomb Gun to name some. The weapons are cool but crazy and you earn them by collecting bolts from boxes and blowing up baddies. Out of all of them whilist it is still a blast to play seems to have shown it's age a little but don't be put off this is still a top game.

Ratchet and Clank Score 9

Ratchet and Clank Locked and Locked/Going Commando

Ratchet and Clank 2 went under Locked and Loaded for Europe which sounds cool for the title whereas the US had Going Commando which doesn't sound as hardcore. Anyway the story is of a Protopet Experiment that has been taken and Ratchet and Clank need to retrieve it.

The game adds alot of new things like Weapon Upgrades and Mods,Armor Upgrades and also you can if you played the first R and C game transfer some weapons for nothing to your arsenal in this game. You also get Nanotech upgrades and you also get to fight in Gladiator like Arena and even go Hoverbike racing for bolts as well as Space Combat which isn't as fun as it is in Tools of Destruction just my opinion. Most of the things that appeared in this game came to be staples of the series like Ship upgrades and collecting Crystals and upgrading weapons. Also it is a pretty tough game as well but Strafe which was also new makes a bit easy to avoid enemy fire.

The weapons are really cool to like a Lava Gun,Plasma Coil and Seeker Bombs some of the best in the game but the range of weapons doesn't dissapoint here. It holds up still very well because of all the features it introduced to the series that are still present today.

Ratchet and Clank Locked and Loaded/Going Commando Score 9.2

Onto the 3rd game and many including myself agree to be the best in the franchise Ratchet and Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal. After watching an episode of Secret Agent Clank, Ratchet and Clank come across Veldin being attack by a race known as the Tyrranoids and Dr Nefarious being the mastermind behind the Tyrannoid attack Ratchet and Clank seek the help of the only man to beat Nefarious Captain Qwark to help save Ratchet and Clanks world. Later it is found out Nefarious plans to turn all organic liveforms into robots.

Unlike the the previous 2 games before it there is like a base where the members of the so called Q Force where you buy Armor, weapons and play Qwark Vid Comics which are 2D sidescroller levels to discover the truth about Qwarks fight against Nefarious.

With a name like Up Your Arsenal you'd expect the series to pack some mighty firepower and boy does it. A Plasma Whip basically works like a Wrench.Disc Blade Gun fires Discs out and one of the most devasting weapons in the series history the Rift Inducer which sucks enemies into a Black Hole. There are many more but trust me you won't be dissapointed.

The game also features online as well with games like Death Match,Siege and Capture the Flag and the games online is pretty fun supports 8 layers in one match so it's well worth checking out. The game itself seems to have lost none of it's quality and is still as fun as it ever was back in 2004.

Ratchet and Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal Score 9.6

Presentation

It still look incredibly good but there re some critcisms like the HelpDesk sometimes repeats over and over again but if you press Triangle you can interupt them and the Vendor in number 1 looks a bit wonky as well.

Lastability

About 10 hours for the main game but then there's challenege mode for 2 and 3 as well as Trophy Support which mostly resembles around skill points and bolts. Also there's online for number 3 as well so plenty there to keep you busy.

Overall Opinion

If you never got the chance to play them then do so when it arrives in the US you won't be dissapointed. If you played them but got rid of them then ply them again. Probably one of the best HD remakes your gonna get despite a couple of flaws. If you only got into Ratchet and Clank on PS3 though then play the PS2 games again when you get the chance. You won't be dissapointed.
