The Secong Ratchet & Clank... It is a strong game, but is it as strong as the first game?

User Rating: 9 | Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked and Loaded PS2
The goods: Everything you loved from R&C and more!

The bads: Not as impressive as the first R&C

Insomniac's back after almost excactly a year from it's preceedor. It expands from the first Ratchet & Clank by adding noticeable features that the rest of the entire series elaborated on. Quite interesting really, because unlike other game series, Going Commando does not really connect its story from the first R&C. It's a good thing really, gamers new to the series will like it.

Since the story does not truly "connect", R&C:GC has a brand new, fresh adventure for our favorite duo. After the events of R&C, Ratchet and Clank are now ultra-famous celebs in thier galaxy. Things are slowing down for them quite drastically though. No action, no adventure, no nothing! But then, for some reason or another, the two are teleported into a brand new galaxy, with a brand new character giving them a brand new mission. Needless to say, they take it head on!

Due to the new mission he was given, Ratchet had to undergo a series of commando training in order to be succsessful. Which leads me to the new gameplay features for R&C:GC. The first thing you'll notice is the cool-looking armor he wears at the beginning of the game. The point to this is the fact you can now gain experience, and accumilating enough will grant you more health in exchange (the game calls it nanotech). So what, right? Insomniac just so happen to make the enemies smarter compared to last year's enemies. These guys can actually aim at you and keep aiming just to kill you! Okay, so what about the weapons? They're just like your armor. If you gain enough experience by using that weapon then the weapon will upgrade! You will still enjoy the platfoming and the puzzle solving mini-games and the mass destruction that made R&C famous.

So, with all these improvements and additions, what makes it not perfect? The reason is, although the sequel's great, the improvements were expected and unsuprising. Not to the point that it's disappointing, but not something you'll happily jump around about either. Oh, well! You'll love the game anyways.
