A Robot and A Cat/Human/Alien. Who Knew It'd Be As Good As a Buddy Action Comedy!?!

User Rating: 9.3 | Ratchet & Clank (Platinum) PS2
Naughty Dog, one of platforming's biggest names jumped to PS2 with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, and Insomniac did the same, with Ratchet and Clank.

The story (which is incredibly fun) starts off with Clank learning of a sinister plot to destroy hundreds of planets to create the perfect planet out of choice pieces of each planet. Clank escapes in a ship, but is shot down and he crashes on the planet Veldin, home to Ratchet, an alien called a Lombax. The two team up and become one of the greatest teams on the PS2. The game has the basic platforming moves, a melee weapon, and a double jump, but Ratchet and Clank dodge many of platformings flaws. The levels are brilliantly designed, with several objectives in each. Each level is played on a small section of a planet which is infested with robots which are 9 out of 10 times, preparing the area you land on to be extracted to add to the new planet. All the enemies vary in difficulty, whether they simply run into you and explode, or they do ninja flips and fire bullets at you. The enemies need varying amounts of hits to kill, but there's plenty of variety to them, and they are all animated well. Clank plays a big part in the game, as he gives you abilities like an even taller jump, a long jump, hovering, and one extra power unlocked later in the game. Also, for some sections, you play as Clank in tiny version, or GIANT version. The music is awesome, and it really goes with the levels which makes for a more immersive. But, the real thing that seperates Ratchet and Clank from the pack, is the 40+ weapons and gadgets you unlock throughout the game using the games currency, bolts. All weapons are inventive, and all have a unique ability. The weapons range from a simple rapid fire blaster, to the all powerful R.Y.N.O (Rip Ya A New One). Each weapons sounds cool, and with the vibration, sounds truly leathal.

Ratchet is a must have title. Nuff said.
