At $20, It's still one of the best platforming experiences to be had on the aging PS2.
The Ratchet and Clank saga began with a simple dream of getting a spaceship to fly, and ended with the birth of two legendary intergalactic heroes whose names would be synonymous with universal heroism and one of the deepest platforming adventures in ages. There are a ton of weapons to collect throughout the game--in addition to some interesting gadgets--and let me tell you; they're a blast to use. The interplanetary game worlds are designed well enough for some fun and immersive exploration, not to mention a slew of variable bad guys to blow to proverbial smithereens.
Before Ratchet and Clank fought robot pirates, a deranged media mogul and a puny Lombax-hating alien thingy, he faced a guy named Chairman Drek. You were charged with stopping the villain from assembling a new planet by seizing pieces from other planets at their unfortunate expense. Like the Ratchet and Clank games that followed, you will travel to different planets via spaceship and find clues as to reaching Drek and stopping him from pulling off his nefarious goal.
As mentioned earlier, the writing and voice-work are some of the best I've ever heard in nearly every video game I've ever played. The spoken dialogue is so full of witty personality and humor that you can't help but chuckle and laugh at those lovingly corny one-liners. Thus, it makes for some very interesting, memorable characters that you can care deeply about. Kudos to Insomniac for putting as much effort in the writing as they obviously did crafting the rest of the game.
The game can still be found in game stores, and at $20, you can't find a better value for your money. Even after all these years, and its numerous sequels and spin-offs, the original Ratchet and Clank continues to generate a fun and rewarding game experience. It is well worth the effort to locate, and certainly not too late to add to your game library.
