A little short, but too spectacular to miss!

User Rating: 9.7 | Ratchet: Deadlocked PS2
This is undoubtedly the best installment in the Ratchet and Clank series to date. The loss of Clank, and therefore of high- and long-jumping and gliding, is quickly made up for with the game's new vehicles, especially, in my opinion, the upgraded Hovership and the fresh-from-the-factory Landstalker. The innovative weapon-modification scheme is certainly a core feature of this game, as every change you make to a weapon alters the gameplay to be more comfortable for the specific user. Customizable partners, wrench upgrades, and a whole new ranking hierarchy adds to the game's brilliance. The plotline has been darkened, which appeals more to me personally, and should also to many other fans of Insomniac's groundbreaking series. On the other hand, the new color schemes and relative shortage of weapons (only ten in comparison to the usual twenty to forty) may not be the best attractions to all fans, however. When fights get really busy, there is an obvious slowing of the frame rate, but this is rare; I can only remember it ever happening in one challenge. Also, some of the weapon aftereffects aren't laid out with the best rendering, but once more, this only happens with one weapon, and shouldn't be enough to scare anyone off. Environments are well-detailed, and the nostalgic visits to planets from the first three games are welcome to fans of the series. So as not to go on forever about the glory of this game, I'll end by saying that any fan of the series should get this game NOW, and that anyone who has never tried this series should try it.
