A stellar game held back by a few minor issues.

User Rating: 9.5 | Red Dead Redemption PS3
Red Dead Redemption has a lot to live up to. It is the latest attempt from Rockstar games, creators of the revered Grand Theft Auto franchise. Thankfully, it is as good as any of them.

Red Dead Redemption tells the tale of John Marston, an ex- gunslinger trying to lead a reformed family life. Everything is going smoothly until he is pulled out of his peaceful life by agents from the Bureau. (the precursors to the FBI) He has to track down the members of his old gang, or they will kill his family. The story is a big part of this game and works well across the board.

The gameplay is probably the best I've ever seen in a third-person action game. It takes the backbone of the aiming system used in Grand Theft Auto 4, and applies tweaks it to add challenge and believability, and the Dead Eye system gives it that western action movie flair. One thing that surprised me was that removing the clutter of Liberty City chases and vehicular combat noticeably better

The presentation is unparalleled. It feels like you are playing a Spaghetti Western. The heroes are heroic but flawed, The villains are suitably evil, and the music is spectacular. The graphics are beyond gorgeous

Sadly, this game is not perfect. The horse AI can be infuriating. Once I had a particularly fast horse. When I was watching a cutscene, it walked into a lake. This happened multiple times. Sometimes the graphics can seem a little jagged. There is also plenty of pop-in with the faster horses.

Overall, this is a great game that cannot be missed.
