Great Single Player, Weak Multiplayer

User Rating: 8.5 | Red Dead Redemption X360
The single player of Red Dead Redemption is amazing. The voice acting is perfect and you get a great feel for the Wild West life we've seen Clint Eastwood portray in countless movies. Sadly the multiplayer is weak at best and feels like a late, out of place addition to an already great game.

You begin the game on route to the small town of Armadillo hired by the government to track down your old gang mates and bring them to justice. Throughout the game you meet countless characters of varying degrees of likeable. Some you love and some you love to hate but no matter how you put it each character makes the game feel more real like you're really experiencing the wild west as we've always seen on the TV and movies.

The main plot isn't the best in the history of video games but it serves the game well and is one of its stronger points. I actually enjoyed most of the gathering quests in it as it was implemented fairly well. The only thing I wish you could do is make things out of the different herbs/hides you gather instead of just selling them for cash (which quickly becomes useless as there isn't much worth buying).

The only drawback of the game is the weak multiplayer. The Free-Roam mode is a mediocre addition to the game. It can be enjoyable to attempt certain things but over all it's very repetitive and can get old quickly. Every time I play this mode I find myself wishing for more.

Instead of making a truly viable Free-Roam mode they instead made it into a sort of lobby for their dreadful objective matches. You have the options to compete in team death match and capture the flag. Sadly both have their issues that this game is not a great 3rd person shooter. The cover system is horrible and can quite often leave you stuck, unable to aim correctly, and still being shot at. Sadly it doesn't end there. The weapons are varying levels of unbalanced and makes them game focus more on weapon spawn control than actual skill.

Many of the issues I have with this game sound like they should be addressed in upcoming downloadable content.
