Proof that technical innovation and captivating game play is enough to make a game great.

User Rating: 9.5 | Red Faction: Armageddon PC
The story takes place some years after the series third installment, Red Faction Guerrilla, and Mars now worse off than ever before. The protagonist of the third game(Alec Mason) killed, for good reason, the antagonist Adam Hale's father leading to his life long grudge against the Mason's. You take the role of Darius Mason, the grandson of Alec and a great barer of misfortune. To leave spoiler out as much as possible Adam Hale deceives Darius into doing something that he hopes will lead to the destruction of the Red Faction.

The game uses a more advanced Geo Mod engine than the last one, which now allows you to rebuild broken parts of the environment. This was a necessary addition but a very welcome one, even though game play would be impossible without fixing broken stairs or platforms it was quite fun and interesting watching the environment rebuild itself. The gun play was fun and captivating with a healthy arsenal of weapons every person will pick out four that they favor out of the rest and those will become all the army they need. Even though the battles were fun and enriching they were quite easy most of the time causing little challenge on the players part due to enemy A.I. being un-synchronized and acting more like a pack of savages, which they were. During low light settings it became difficult to see the environment around you and unconventional means of lighting had to be used, such as activating the Nano Forge which normally is only used to repair things, but it also gives off a faint glow which can be used to illuminate the area.

Despite the lack of real difficulty in combat and real amounts of difficulty in regards to vision this was a great game and deserves the attention of every gamer that enjoys third person shooters with a Sci-Fi back drop.
