Other than being short, this is awesome!
User Rating: 8 | Red Faction: Guerrilla - Demons of the Badlands PS3
Demons of the Badlands is like a mini version of Red Faction which means that if you enjoyed RF´s gameplay and mechanics you will love this DLC. You have a few exciting missions playing as Samania against the EDF. This time you´re part of the Marauders which I feel weren't enough explored in the game, so its pretty cool to be fighting alongside them here and wrecking havoc. Again there´s hardly a story and its all about smashing everything in sight. You have a few Demolition Masters, a couple of transport missions, some rescue the hostages missions and raids and of course loads and loads of high and medium importance targets to destroy. Again its like a mini RFG but one or two more missions or even a few more side missions would have been nice as the fun ends rather quickly and its a shame. You´ll be kicking butt and suddenly there are no more targets in the map and the DLC is over. It took me about 4 hours to finish all the main and side missions and destroy all the targets (the new Marauder walker is so awesome), You could make it last longer if you wish to find all 75 collectables but for a bronze trophy I couldn't be bothered. You could also play on a higher difficulty but in my opinion the game on normal is so brutal it takes the fun out of the gameplay.
There are a few new weapons, the best being a missile pod which fires loads of small missiles at EDF soldiers and makes them go BOOM which is so fun! You don't need to worry about salvage to buy new weapons as you just unlock them and their upgrades by doing missions. There is also no moral system. After playing through the game I welcomed these additions. Its just about fun and nothing else. Collecting salvage again would have been tedious and unless they gave you loads of salvage you would only be able to buy the best weapons towards the end of the DLC which would have been a shame. As to the moral, the AI was never RFG´s best feature, they get in your way, get themselves killed and the moral drops even though it wasn't your fault. So no moral eliminates that problem.
There´s also a new sector to explore which is large and full of stuff to destroy and a few new vehicles which are cool but nothing great except the Walker that´s a mean wrecking machine! I enjoyed all my time in Demons of the Badlands and I don't regret my purchase but I really wish there was more content as there isn't even anything for the online portion of the game. Still I had loads of fun and cant wait for the next Red Faction! Bring it on!
