Fun, spread a little to thin
Buy this game for the destruction alone, concentrate on it and endure the rest. Missions are repetitive in nature and rarely require you to think or you the amazing destructive abilities open to you. There are no real insentives to actually kill the EDF, they just seem to be in the way most of the time, making them more of a nusiance than an enemy and because of this lack lusture feel to the rebellion I easily found myself not caring if I died, as long as the trek back to the mission wasn't too lengthy. For those who have played it this game feels almost identical to Far Cry 2, the same structure applies, with the same amount of tedious travel between missions.
The plot, don't worry about it, there isn't one. Your brother is killed (he was red faction himself), you are then under suspicion yourself and by defending yourself you join the guerillas - insert alot of dead EDF and hours of gameplay - and then the EDF is gone.
One thing about the plot confuses me, I haven't looked much into it but who are the marauders? They claim Mars belongs to them as much as the red faction.... I sense an expansion pack.
Some of the more scripted missions are fun, but they are too sparse to make up the otherwise repetitive gameplay. After a while the destruction also becomes dull as you have to destroy buildings to get scrap which in turn becomes new weapons/upgrades.
Multiplayer is average, they've done little to make the single player any different online.
Improvements? Sell the GeoMod2 physics engine, which is phenomenal to a company that can also make a good game. For now though, try and convince a friend to buy it by downloading the demo and saying 'smashy smashy' over and over
