How to be a terrorist: The simulator.

User Rating: 8.5 | Red Faction: Guerrilla X360
We've come a long way from Red Faction 1 on the Sony platform. I was shocked to see it not on the home system. To be fair, I've played the game through its entirety on the PlayStation 3, as it was my girlfriend's copy, she took it back. I purchased it for the 360. (She's a big PS3 fanatic, its that Home business) Anyway. Between the two versions i can say it looks the same on both systems the black levels are slightly richer on the 360 though there seems to be screen tearing from time to time. (Both versions played on HD tv's Plasma at 720p, and LCD for the ps3 version at 1080p with HDMI cables). This is the 3rd open world game I've played this month the others being Infamous, and Prototype. I can say i enjoyed all three to varying degrees.

This is about a year since GTA IV came out so it makes sense for all the "me too" games to come out about now. RF: G is a fun game, make no mistake about it, I'm a sci-fi geek so i dig the Mars backdrop, its like your playing total recall sans the three breasted women. From blowing up buildings, to kidnapping EDF military officials and torturing them (unseen but you can hear your mates do the deed as you drive) to assassinating corporate vp's, leading and defending insurgent/EDF raids this can game can be described as "How to be a terrorist". All its missing is the road-side bombs, the repetition will have you suffering from PTSD. It's the wet dream of conspiracy cooks and anyone that saw the movie "zeitgeist 1&2" and doesn't understand the word sensationalism.

Volition is slick, they can get away with a lot of this due to the sci-fi setting and the Mars backdrop. If you re-skin this game with a desert and set it on earth, we'd see this as exhibit A by politicians seeking to make a name for themselves on the "Perils of not regulating computer entertainment". Kudos to volition.

I like the check and balance system in the game. It encourages carnage and destruction; the more bedlam you create the more EDF will come and overwhelm you. I think i saw a user complain that it feels like its you versus an army. Yes. That's what its supposed to be. Basic comprehension here people. Understand what you get when you buy something. That's what a guerrilla war is. On principle the game lives up to its thematic purpose. If you play using hit and run tactics you get the most bang for your buck. Your not supposed to be a one man juggernaut holding off an army with four weapons having limited ammo. Restrictions, rules, its what makes games fun. You buy a game for its set of rules. If you want to play said juggernaut go play Prototype.

The online, is good the basic vanilla online modes you get from all gun games. There are destroy and build team modes but i didn't care for them. I've played the multiplayer on PS3 so basically means most of the people didn't have mics. I'm personally over saturated with multiplayer games, or maybe its the juvenile N-word spewing on xboxlive. This games worth a look-see.
