One of the first shooters out on PS2 and still one of the best.
Red Faction's single-player gameplay is similar to Half-Life (which is damn good)...you dont stop to end levels, you keep going on recieving new objectives as you go. The game has no-brainer moments where you go around shooting everything, stealth objectives which are tense and even driving moments including submarines and ATV's. Excellent.
Did I mention Geo-Mod technology? Nope. Well, it's pretty old news now, but this is still probably the only game (along with it's sequel) that actually allows you to blow holes in walls, and alter the environment (yes, you can even create your own tunnels!). This technology was ahead of time when it was released (no other games allow you this freedom).
The graphics in Red Faction are not great I have to admit, but the game is big, and the frame-rate is smoother than most shooters on PS2. The gloomy environments on Mars really give the game a decent atmosphere. The sound is great. The music and FX are both perfect for the game.
Next, multipleyer. Red Faction provides Deathmatch...nothing special, but you can play against bots as well as just your mate. This includes single-player too (you can play deathmatches without any mates, just you and bots) which is good. It's addictive. But just the 1 game mode isn't enough.
So overall, Red Faction is one of the best PS2 games I have got. Recap- Excellent Half-Life style single-player, addictive multiplayer, great weapons, Geo-Mod technology for destruction and a good story. Buy it if you dont already have it.
Worst bit: enemies absorb an alarming amount of bullets before dying.
