Red Steel isn't a bad game, but it's a flawed one.

Red Steel had a lot going for it prior to it's release. Unfortunately, it failed to deliver on all of it's promises. First, let's start with the controls.

At first the controls are fine. You're aiming your gun thinking why the heck people think the controls are so bad, and then you get to the swordplay. GOOD GOD. The controls are terrible! Go ahead, wave your Wiimote in the air like a lunatic. Once you do, you'll probably see your guy still holding his sword in a still position....still. Swing to the right, the game will think you swung left. Swing to the left, the game will think you swung right. Heck, you'll be lucky if he even moves his sword. So basically what I'm trying to say is.... the controls suck. Well, when using the sword they do. When you use your gun, the controls are surprisingly good, though your gun may go out of wack for no reason.

The story isn't one that will jerk your heart. Guy goes to see his girlfriend, girlfriend gets kidnapped, guy goes to save girlfriend. Nothing much here.

Graphics are not impressive at all, but hey, it was released the same day as the Wii, so you really can't expect much in terms of graphics. Red Steel 2, on the other hand, looks fantastic.

So there you have it, Red Steel is a very average to mediocre shooter. However, that isn't to say that there's no fun to be had. Using the gun is a blast, especially when using that cool Matrix-like technique. The game can also get pretty challenging at times as well. Let's just hope that Red Steel 2 does what Red Steel 1 didn't.
