Slow and easy-going, but good none the less.

I have never been one to fish, in video games or real life. However, in my desperate attempt to collect games for my Dreamcast, I picked up a used copy of this game, Reel Fishing: Wild.

You begin your game in the fishing lodge and can access the game's numerous locations by opening the fishing journal on the table. At first, the only location that is available is the Japanese Mountain Stream but the more you fish, you will unlock more locations, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, a few more in Japan and several in the United States. You also begin with a basic rod and lure. Just like the locations, the more you fish, the more rods and lures you will unlock. By combining certain rods and lures, you can catch better fish. The controls a simple and easy to grasp, making this game a good choice for beginners. There is no need to attach the lure to you rod, as the game does it for you.

This game utilizes the Dreamcast graphic engine well. When you turn the game on, you are treated to a beautiful opening FMV with several types of fish interacting in a gorgeous underwater environment. When you access the start screen, you are treated to realistic backdrops from the game, featuring a river or a waterfall, that change every time you go back to the screen. Each location features gorgeous realistic backdrops, ranging from waterfalls and streams to rivers and lakes. The fish are each richly detailed and look very real. The background music is comprised of calming instrumentals, coupled with the realistic sound effects of water and the surrounding nature, making this game a fairly relaxing experience in general.

Reel Fishing: Wild is one of those games that can take a while to complete. With all the locations, rods and lures you can unlock, as well as all the fish you can catch, it will take up a lot of your time. Since this is one of those game that doesn't have a story you need to follow, you can take as much or as little time as you like to complete it. This game is strictly a single-player experience but that doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the game.

Reel Fishing: Wild is a decent game for those who want a change of pace from fast-paced, button-mashing, action-packed games. With realistic graphics and calming music, it's a great title to relax the mind and the hands. It may not be for everyone, but you may be able to find this Dreamcast gem very cheap in bargain bins.
