At first glance, Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory seems like a really good shooter. After playing it for an hour or so, you begin to realize that you haven't actually accended any floors at all. The game randomly generates floors, which is supposed to give you unlimited floor layouts, but all it becomes is repetitious and bland. The concept of creating a demon robot, with a seamingly unlimited amount of add-ons and modifications, is very cool. It would seem as though Konami didn't follow through with the delivery. If you're looking for a mech shooter, I'd keep my fingers crossed for Armored Core.
