The best of the Resident Evil series now on the Dreamcast

User Rating: 9 | BioHazard 2 (Value Plus) DC
Resident Evil 2 takes place 2 months after the first game but instead of trying to escape a mansion you are trying to escape the isolated town of Raccoon City. This time you have the choice of playing as either rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy or biker Claire Redfield. This time the game is made more interesting by finishing the game with either Leon or Claire and saving the game which allows you to play the opposite characters (that you chose) scenario which tells there side of what happened.

Game play: Game play is the same like all RE's in that you are going to be controlling a tank. The game still contains the enemies from the first game such as zombies, the Cerberus (dog), and crows only with the added addition of a frightening new enemy called the Licker. Graphics: The game looks decent considering that the game is over 7 years old. Since the game is a port of the Playstation version, the visuals are going to be a little bit better than the original but nothing too exciting just a little bit cleaner looking polygons. Though there are cleaner looking polygon models there is a down side which would be when there is an area with a fire in the game the fire just looks so horrible thus making it the only down side of the visuals. The CG movies in the game are done perfectly and capture the tone of the game unlike the way the Resident Evil 3 port turned out with slow and milky looking CG movies.

Sound: The sound is pretty good and helps to set the creepy mood of the game. Listening to the growls of the Cerberus (zombie dog), chirps of the crows, groans of zombies, and moaning of the lickers make for a truly terrifying experience.

Replay value: The replay value is pretty good due to the fact that after completing the game with a character you save the game then insert the opposite characters game disk and will be able to play the game from their perspective. Also after completing the game, you will unlock the Extreme Battle mini-game and be rewarded with extra pictures in the picture gallery along with the completed characters CG movies.

Overall: I would say this is one of the best RE games and despite having a bit of aging on the visuals the game still has great game play and sound along with a decent amount of replay value. So if you happen to stumble across Resident Evil 2 for the Dreamcast and haven’t owned or played the game before then the game would be a great buy but if you own it there really isn’t anything new to play from this
