Resident Evil 4 for the PS2 offers an enjoyable and entertaining experience that is rare among other games of the genre.
RE4, at a glance is a fast paced arcade shooter with tons of depth. Creative bosses, exhilarating game play, interesting CG-sequences and PS2-limit pushing graphics truly tear this game apart from the previous installments and bring it to the absolute next level. Before Resident Evil 4, you could say I wasn’t a hard-core fan that I have become now.
At first; dueling its preliminary stages, Resident Evil 4 may seem like a linear and straight forward arcade shooter. However, as the story progresses, so does the depth of the game. The boss fights, the merchant, everything... it’s just ground breaking.
There are tons of tiny details that anyone is sure to notice, and appreciate how much effort has been put into this game--yes, this is one truly polished game. Further proof of this is the new features included, such as additional game play with the Ada Wong female character.
Even after beating the game, there’s no definite end to it. As mentioned above, different modes keep the game fun and alive. The best and most challenging part of the games is Mercenaries. It offers various un-lockable characters and rewards you for setting high scores and breaking the “record”.
Overall, Resident Evil 4 is an unprecedented PS2 title and probably the best in the series. It’s with confident I can say it deserves the title “One of the best games ever made”.
