Contender for best game EVER!

Having never played any of the other games in the series I was worried that this instalment would have limited appeal for me. However, nothing could be further from the truth. The game starts by giving you a little background to the games, covering Leon’s involvement in Racoon City (Resident Evil 2) to the shutting down of the Umbrella Corporation. From here on in, the game literally drops you off and leaves you to your own devices.

Leon S. Kennedy, now working closely with the U.S. Government is tasked with finding the President’s daughter who has been kidnapped and all leads point to a mysterious village in Europe. In no time at all things take a sinister turn and you find yourself fighting for your life.

The game looks and sounds wonderful with faultless designs and textures. The slightest rustling of leaves or the snapping of a twig is enough to get your pulse racing as it could mean the difference between life and death.

The vast majority of enemies that you will encounter also exhibit what can only be described as the most cunning A.I. ever seen in a game. They will dodge and weave in order to avoid your targeting laser and if there’s a large gap between you and them then they will throw lob you with an axe, taking off a rather large chunk of your health meter in the process.

There is a nice little upgrading system for your weapons where you can enhance various features such as firepower or ammo capacity as well as buy other items from the same vendor. Difficult choices will need to be made regarding which weapons you will carry and to what items you want to have in your inventory. Space is very limited so choose carefully.

I am still probably less than half way through the game so I can’t really say much more than this. However, I have already had a few run ins with the guys running the show and all I can say is that I am really looking forward to settling a few scores.

This is easily one of the best games available for the Gamecube and now the Playstation 2. If you have either of these consoles, do yourself a favour and check this game out. You won’t be disappointed.
