A turning point in the horror/survival genre. All games to come will follow in it's footsteps, many will fail.
Then came something that changed the world forever... an over the shoulder, free-form movement, re-load on the fly, graphically ingenious Resident Evil 4.
Now I bet when you first played this game you probably said to yourself (As I have many times) "Why didn't they do this in the first place!?" Right? The gameplay is smooth, bringing back classic elements like the quick turn. They also made it possible to use the combat knife WHILE having a gun equipped. Fancy 'eh? You're also gifted with a Attache Case (Inventory) that allows easily more storage space than Resident Evil 0-3. They did away with dropping items on the floor to come back later and pick them up, they also did away with storage containers, due to your Attache Case being able to be upgraded to carry even more items. Another ingenious idea was to make Merchants available in the game. They offer anything from buying your current items, to purchasing new guns, or if you like your old guns... to equipping them with various upgrades. Like firepower, reload speed, firing speed, and capabilities to hold more ammunition in a clicp/magazine than ever. Think 10 rounds was cool in RE? Try an upgraded Handgun that carries over 21 rounds in a single load!
The graphics are very well done. So much attention has been given to detail. Real life physics apply as well. Shoot an enemy in the hand to make him/her drop thier weapon. Shoot them in the head to stun them, then run up on them with a round-house kick that'll send thier head flying in a thousand pieces! Or (My Favorite) shoot them in the knee as they're running up at you to make them stagger and fall, then run up and quickly hack them to death with your combat knife to conserve ammunition.
So much has been done in this game that makes it so fun to re-play over and over again. You'll never tire of this game. And for $20, it's a cheap masterpiece that'll have you savoring al 20 dollars worth of your money into it!
