If you like games, buy this game. Graphics, story, and gameplay come together beautifully to create a game that not only is fun, but refreshing. Resident Evil 4 is the reason I play games so much. Every once in a while, through the sludge of mediocre games, comes a gem that inspires a person to keep on with the addiction that is called gaming. The story starts off with Leon Kennedy in a car on the way to a Spanish village where Ashley Grehan, the President's daughter, was supposedly last seen after being kidnapped. You quickly discover, however, that there is much more than a missing girl in this area. Eventually you fight horrific lake monsters, gigantic ogres, and a bunch of unfriendly villagers. The first time I noticed this game was going to be scary was when I heard a chainsaw being revved up. Soon enough, I was running around, desperately trying to dodge the chainsaw wielded by a maniac without running into the pitchfork/knife/axe wielding locals. One of the game's most creative aspect is the interactive cutscenes. Press L1 and R1 or the mayor of the village might break your neck. Ferociously tap X or be crushed by a rolling boulder. Another nice thing about this game is that it doesn't hold back on the gore. Get to close to a chainsaw and your head will roll right off. Low on life and an insect spits acid on you, and half your face boils away. This game won't disappoint videogame players who want the most bang for their buck. Even when your finished the Single-Player portion of the game, you still have a lot of extras and unlockables to dig through. This is a game that will keep you occupied. Now to the technical part of the review. The sound is great. It seems to change to just the right song at just the right time, although it seems quiet at times. The graphics, while not as good as the Gamecube's, still look great. It's impressive the PS2 could pump out this high a quality of visuals. There are some bad things about this game, sadly. The aiming system may frustrate those who like to walk while shooting. The tank-like controls of Leon make navigating a bit tricky also. Other then those two faults in the games nearly flawless presentation, this game is, well, pretty damn good.
