Great Re game!

User Rating: 8.5 | Resident Evil 4 PS2
I just have to say that I am pretty surprised that Capcom actually improved their Resident Evil games for a change. The last couple of titles made me lose respect for Capcom, but once again they have redeemed themselves. Six years has passed since the incident in Racoon City, and Leon S Kennedy is now a agent sent on a mission in Europe to retrieve the president's kidnapped daughter. Problem is, Leon faces similar horrors that occurred 6 years ago. You will control Leon is 3rd person, but this time, there is no weird camera locations that PS1 Resident Evil games had. Instead the camera will always be behind Leon allowing you to see everything ahead almost through his eyes. There is also the option of holding down a button to run, which previous games had as well. Problem is, it takes Leon a long time to turn that an swift enemy can strike you without you even noticing.

In Resident Evil 4, Leon is capable of bearing more than a dozen types of weaponry. While there are no melee weapons except your knife, there are 4 types of pistols, 3 types of shotguns, some submachine guns and more. This including upgrades for the weapons can be purchased from a mysterious merchant that appears in many places with money dropped by the enemies. Leon can aim every single weapon with a special laser for increased accuracy. While most will think that the laser will help make the game easier, rest assured that it is still difficult to aim at enemies at far distances, as the laser fades because of the distance.

One thing that is both good and not appealing at the same time is the fact that instead of the standard bloody zombies, there are "infected" people that barely have a scary look. They look more like crazed people than blood thirsty zombies. However, the enemies have much more intelligence, but not a lot. They will attempt to dodge you laser at once when you are aiming, but sometimes the enemies are so stupid, they wont even recognize that you are here even if you are a few meters away. One thing that is quite appealing is the detailed gory subject matter within the game. There will be blood whenever you shoot at anybody, as well as tons of blood when you pop an infected with a solid shotgun shell. Whats not appealing is that Resident Evil 4 has truly lost the Resident Evil feeling completely. 20 minutes into the game, and it feels like another gory shooter where you shoot crazed people. Another way that it has lost it's Resident Evil feeling is that there are no scary-jump-at-you surprises at all. Most of the time, you will be walking from room to room clearing hostiles out of the way to get closer to your destination.

Game play: +Very good control of Leon. +Improved Aiming. -Not so scary. +/-Enemies are much smarter than previous titles but are still dumb. Graphics: +very detailed character models. +nice weapon visuals. +creepy environments. +weather changes. +/- terror is replaced with more violence and gore.

Sound:+++amazing sound, voice acting, enemies make a variety of sounds. -music attempts to be scary but fails, but then again it is suitable enough.

value: +++++++finally, this Resident Evil game will take you more than 20 hours of total game play to finish, let alone the extras and it will sometimes make you want to play it over and over again!

OVERALL: Doesn't feel much like a Resident Evil game, but it is one of the best quality shooters that I have seen these past years! But I must say, by my opinion only, I don't think that this game deserved the "game of the year" award. While it had high production value, and a very good and successful attempt at the voice acting, Capcom messed up because I have found many minor graphical flaws within the core game play. I myself have rented this game for 5 days and I must say it is one of the most satisfying rentals I had. FINAL GRADE: B+++
