Admittedly, very little. What I can tell you is that I have never played a previous RE game, and that I didn't particularly love the two RE films. Furthermore, as far as my tastes are concerned, the appeal of the survival horror genre has always been elusive. However, I, like many other thousands of gamers, took a chance on Capcom's latest entry and found what could very well be one of my favorite games to date... in fact, other than Butcher Bay, I can't recall the last time I was immersed so fully into a pixellated world. Every detail in the game seems designed solely to convince you of the horrors that await you in your grand adventure, and for every madman you lay waste to, or area you clear, you're never convinced that there isn't something even more ferocious waiting for you in the next leg of your journey. The journey, I might add, is wonderful -- the story constructed for the game is classic damsel-in-distress fare, and this, however unoriginal, is deftly unfolded for the player in a beautifully cinematic experience. Technically, the game is a masterpiece with a flare for visuals surpassed only by the spine-tingling music and ambiance that permeates everything. The graphics are almost always flawless, save for a few minor blemishes. The soundtrack rivals that of any Hollywood epic, and everything from the wind blowing through the trees, to the massive blasts of the weapons at your disposal is bursting with obvious quality. Gameplay is slick, rarely frustrating (actually, only the brief absence of maneuverability after doing a spin-around is the only thing I had an issue with), and the difficulty is so finely tuned that anyone could complete the game with a real sense of accomplishment. In short, this game is a must-have, whether or not you've played the previous titles in the series. Seriously, it's that good.
