Best For 2005…Get it
The game takes place six years after the incident of Racoon City (After RE 3 …. Let’s try to forget that the Outbreak series ever existed), and you play the role of Leon S. Kennedy, one of its survivors. He’s now a special agent for the government and his very first mission is to save the President’s daughter in a rural area in Europe. During his mission, he stumbles into a lot of trouble with the locals, and pretty much finds himself in the same position when he first entered Racoon City.
The graphics in this game are truly amazing; it’s still a mystery how Capcom managed to convert this GameCube title to run smoothly on the PS2. Even though the PS2 has a slower processor than the GameCube, it still runs the game extremely well. The graphics are definitely the best seen so far on the PS2, it makes you feel as though you are playing an intro or cut scene.
Sound effects have always been great in the previous titles and this one is no exception. Weapon fire, eerie music, screaming monsters and bone-crushing death effects give the game that great feeling of a horror movie. The voice acting was done very well for this game as well.
The gameplay has changed significantly from other RE’s; you now have an over-the-shoulder view of Leon, allowing you to see everything that’s going on in front of you. The player will never have to worry about camera changes like in previous RE’s. Running into a zombie or a Hunter slicing your head off is a thing of the past, this is a very nice change from Capcom (Thank You).
A nice addition to the game is that you can purchase and upgrade weapons from “The Merchant”. You can buy more powerful weapons or upgrade them with money you collect throughout the game. There are a number of upgrades you can do, like increasing firepower, fire rate, reload times and bullet capacity of your favourite weapons.
Another change to the game is the inventory. There are no longer chests to store extra items; you now walk around with everything you can carry and have to strategise on which item is the most important. The good thing is that puzzle items, keys and treasures take up no space in your inventory. Throughout the game you can also increase the number of items you can carry, with the aid of the merchant, so there is no need for frustration.
There’s also a lot of re-playability in this game: unlocking two separate scenarios for Ada Wong, a Mercenary mini game similar to the one in RE 3, a movie browser, extra weapons and an extra difficulty setting. Keeping you busy for quite some time.
There are number of negatives however, there is a problem with ……. uhhh ….. no wait there is a problem with ……. no that’s not right ………. hmmmmm. Basically there are no faults, besides the fact that the game ends and shows credits.
This game is a must have, especially for fans of the series, this is definitely the best game for 2005 on the PS 2.
Get it.
