GOTY. That is all.
But let me tell you, this game is definitely GOTY material.
Now I've never played Resident Evil but this is definitely the game that makes me a fan. I've got to see how RE5 ends up.
If you want to know about graphics, this game definitely sports the best I've seen in a Gameceub game to date. I played this, of course, about a month after FEAR so the game isn't the best looking- but at the same time, it is definitely on par with FEAR, especially since both games differ in the way they approach graphics.
The environments are really somethig to behold, and they reek with ambiance. Thing is, the game didn't really scare me until about halfway in. The game definitely does a good job at times with scaring the crap out of you.
The gameplay is also very solid. The controls are incredibly well- done. I know RE is famous for bad controls but this one definitely broke the mold completely and shat on it.
And intereactive cutscenes are totally awesome. I hope other developers do the same in the future.
The story is one of the best I've seen. Really takes zombies and flips the whole concept on its head. I really like it when people re-interpet zombie lore.
The sound and music is also top-notch, in my opinion. But this game has to be played on a TV that's newer than the one I played it on. The sounds' gotta be way better. Which I guess is saying something when it sounds pretty good on my TV. Had one really good moment where I could hear a monster running up behind me real fast. So fast, in fact, I got pretty freaked out, I guess.
The replay value is great, and there's tons of stuff to unlock. My only peeve is that Mercenaries mode can be a little panicked, since you spend half the time gathering up time-extenders while trying to avoid zombies running around with chainsaws that'll decapitate you instantly. I do good at it, it's just a little frustrating some times.
Buy the damn game if you have a Gamecube. It's a real great game to have in lieu of Zelda.
