This is the best action/survival horror game I have ever played in my entire life.
The story starts off with a hero which you all know from Resident Evil 2 (if you've played it), Leon S Kennedy. Now he's a government agent, searching for the President's daughter Ashley, who was abducted, by European villagers. The characters have great voice-acting and they are all very good. I have to say this is the best story in the series because it's so fun to get into and the villains are awesome.
The gameplay is the big part about this game that makes it the best. You'd be expecting a survival horror game where you move around trying to collect items and trying to survive with a bit of action, but in this you have even more action because for one thing, at the very beginning, it is really surprising. I have never expected this. The camera is in an over-the-shoulder view which is very helpful and very useful. It doesn't get in the way, it doesn't frustrate or annoy you... it's just perfect. When you hold the gun up with the R1 button, the camera still is great and adds tension.
Basically, you have weapons such as handguns, shotguns, TMP (machine gun), and yes, even grenades in this game. You don't have THAT in the original games. When I started playing this, the controls were so perfect. Every combination was great. I started playing it for a while, and when I fought the first enemy which was one of the villager's, it opened my eyes because it was so fun. When you fight enemies, you can shoot them in various areas. These villagers aren't any dumb zombies - they are very smart, and can attack you with weapons, they can climb ladders and they will do ANYTHING to try to kill you.
This game is just one of those games that you will want to play over and over, even after full completion.
The boss battles are incredible. They are very dangerous, challenging and scary. Basically, when you kill enemies, they leave pick-ups. They are several colours - blue is money, red means ammo and green means either herbs or first-aid sprays. You can buy weapons from this guy who sells a bunch of stuff, and you sell your treasure. Not only can you buy weapons, you can also upgrade them, making the replay value better.
In cutscenes, which I was really surprised with, is that the fact that you'll find yourself watching them thinking you can rest your hands, but some cutscenes are interactive, requiring you to press a certain button or else you'll die. It's a good addition.
I can't believe Capcom managed to make such a good game.
Now let's talk about the graphics. Well, it's not as great as the Gamecube version, since it was originally meant for that console, but hey. Capcom actually managed to make it still look superb. The bosses look realistic. Leon looks brilliant. It just looks SO good.
The music is really great. It suits the zombies and in situations, the music starts playing when you approach them, intensifying the situation. The sound effects, like the shotguns, zombies and bosses... every sound effect in the game is perfect.
OVERALL: This is the best game in my video-game collection of all time. This is one of my most favourite games. Do yourself a favour and try this game, because if not, you're missing out on a brilliant game. Can't wait for Resident Evil 5.
