Amazingly innovative RE game totally worth playing!

User Rating: 9.6 | Resident Evil 4 PS2
Back when the Resident Evil series first came out for the PlayStation, the game was sold like hotcakes. But the greater impact was shown with the release of Resident Evil 2 where you got to play as Leon S. Kennedy, a first-day-in-the-job police officer working for Raccoon city.

Resident Evil 4 takes place 6 years after RE2 and continues Leon's story.
This game is so different from the original Playstation's counterparts that you'll most surely love it in all aspects. Let's take a look at the changes made between Resident Evil 3 (the best RE in the PS in my opinion) and Resident Evil 4, shall we?
First of all, the most noticeable change is that in RE3 you had a fixed camera and had a straight line of shooting, while in RE4 you see Leon from shoulder view and have to manually aim wherever you want to shoot. This definitely adds up for a lot more of excitement to the gameplay as well.

Another great improvement in RE4 is that you no longer depend on a rank based stat towards the end of the game. Rather, you can use as many First Aid Sprays, save as many times as you want (that's right, infinite saves; no more annoying ink ribbons!) and take as much time as you want to play the game. Nothing will matter towards the end of the game since you have no ranking at all. You can now even buy your own Rocket Launchers by the mere amount of 30,000 pesetas. The only problem is that it only contains one rocket and then you drop the rest of the gun.

As far as graphics and sound are concerned, this game makes a fantastic job, hands down. Even though many claim that the GameCube counterpart looks and sounds a lot better, it is highly a dubious position to state that the PS2 game doesn't do as well.
This game looks terrific, and it does an amazing job to keep up to the looks of the GC game. The same goes for the music: even though I really don't care much about it, this game has some really catchy music themes and melodies.

As for the gameplay, the most wonderful aspect of the PS2 game is that it adds up a lot of features that the GC one didn't have. You can now play as Ada Wong (that's right, she ain't dead after all) in her Separate Ways extra feature. This game expands a whole lot more into the story as Ada explains all her findings in 5 detailed reports and we get to know a lot more about the mysterious Wesker fella.

Also, the PS2 game has the Movie Browser feature, so once you win the game, you'll be able to watch any cutscene you like from this menu.

Last but not least, the most compelling added feature is the added gloss of new weapons and a new special outfit for Leon and Ashley that were lacking in the GS game. These are the PRL 412, which is a Plagas Removal Laser that is unlocked upon completing Professional Mode. This is an awesome weapon that will make your second run on Pro a mere yawn. Concerning the new outfit, it consists of a Mafia outfit for Leon, which complements for his Chicago Typewriter and a Knight armor suit for Ashley, which makes her invincible to anything.

All in all, any Resident Evil fan will undoubtedly love this game due to its attractiveness and intense gameplay. Its suspense will keep you on the edge of your controller the whole game as you wonder what's going to happen next or what enemy might be behind you or about to decapitate you with their unstoppable chainsaw.
This is an extreme game that should keep you busy for a long while until you manage to unlock every secret and fully complete everything.
