User Rating: 6.5 | Resident Evil 6 X360
I felt like I needed to give a review on this game. I don't think I've ever written a review before, but I felt like the 4.5 is very misleading and wholeheartedly disagreed with some of the major points of the Gamespot reviewer. I also had issues that he did not bring up.rn To start, I have played the Resident Evil series since the beginning. I loved the evolution RE4 brought and consider it to be one of the best games of all time. I also thoroughly enjoyed RE5. So, I was one that personally like the current Resident Evil formula of less survival-horror, more awesome action.rn Resident Evil Six is a complicated game. It struggles with its own identity. The "No hope left" campaign never really comes to fruition. This is because of the lack of fluidity and chronological issues that comes with the three, eventually four, different chapters. rn The problem is that because you don't get the whole story from any of the individual chapters, one doesn't truly appreciate the breadth of the situation until long after you know what happens. rn The actual game play is mixed results. They bring the standard RE4 and RE5 game play that focuses on action and gun play. They do add some much needed variation.rn With the Leon campaign, easily the most enjoyable chapter, Capcom brings back Zombies. This is something that traditional RE fans have been craving for since RE4. Capcom integrates Zombies into the action style of RE4 and RE5 very well. There are just so many of them, that even with the overwhelming emphasis on gun play and action, you're still challenged. rn Speaking of the gun play. My major gripe with the action in this game is the eradication of the weapons upgrade systems of RE4 and RE5. Personally, I loved the upgrade system that was in place. I was utterly devastated by the lack of any way of upgrading weapons, that's entirely true but I'll comment on that later. Another minor gripe was the lack of an attache case. rn The attache case and subsequent tetris style game of trying to fit your items in it was vintage RE. That doesn't exist in this game. rn Fortunately, in place of the past weapons upgrade systems is a perks style system incredibly similar to Call of Duty. So similar that I personally felt like my intelligence was insulted. It's such a blatant rip-off of the Call of Duty system that I cannot stand it. rn On the plus side of combat, there is now a fully-integrated melee system that feels perfect. It adds a completely new dimension of combat that has never previously existed in the RE system. It fits in well. You're able to kick and punch enemies with ease.rn Running out of ammo but you don't have time to reload cause an enemy is in your face? The new melee system lets you kick and punch the enemy to death and get some precious space between you and your enemies so that you can reload.rn The edition of the melee system is fantastic. But the major gripe Gamespot had is with the QTE or quick-time-events. rn I personally didn't mind them. They aren't nearly as obtrusive as Gamespot makes them out to be. They're timely and keep you involved. It is not my main gripe with the game.rn My main gripe with the game is the lack of an ability to pause. Seriously, you can go through a whole section of a chapter and not have the ability to pause. Hit the the home button or pull out the batteries, it will not pause. Need to go the bathroom or answer the door for pizza? Yep, you're gonna die or your pizza going to get cold. It is something so stupid and so easily fixed that actually turns out to be a major flaw in the fundamentals of the game.rn Ultimately, RE6 is searching for an identity. It tries so hard to be an action game with all the explosions, shootouts, and rail vehicle sections. It also tries to include survival-horror elements by including the Zombies once again. rn If you've liked RE4 and RE5 it is definitely worth picking up. If you're new to the series or lukewarm towards it, you'll probably not enjoy this game too much. But it is not a 4.5 rating. Gamespot is wrong. That's why this game gets a 6.5rnrn
