Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - Return to Horror

User Rating: 9 | Resident Evil 7: biohazard PS4

Alright, let's just get one thing out of the way: This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the greatest Resident Evil game ever.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a first-person survival horror game by Capcom and the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise, which really seemed to be going downhill with Resident Evil 6 and its sequels. Capcom did the only thing that they could do: They went back to the roots of Resident Evil. And it works.

The Beginning Hour teaser demo alone was stunning and brilliant, and probably one of the greatest demos ever made, second only to the legendary P.T. demo for the cancelled Silent Hills game. There are several little hints and references to the events seen in the teaser, but this is a new protagonist named Ethan Winters, who is looking for his lost wife, Mia, and stumbles upon the Baker house.

Filled with jumpscares, tension, boss battles, and a prime example to inspire all horror games to come, Resident Evil 7 is scary, fun, and interesting. In fact, I'm only giving this game a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 because of the lack of endings. There are only two endings, which slightly disappointed me. I was expecting at least five endings, especially since the Beginning Hour teaser alone had 3 endings (the Infected, Bad, and Good endings). Other than that, this is a must-play for any fans of horror games, Resident Evil games, and survival games, especially if you liked Alien: Isolation, Amensia, and Outlast.

Overall, Resident Evil 7 is a masterpiece. It's hidden collectibles significantly increase replay value, the tension and jumpscares in the game are superb, the story is great, the little references to earlier events in the series are fantastic, and it's boss battles are gut-wrenching and horrifying.

Yeah, by the way, don't let your kids play this if you want them to be able to sleep at night.
