Resident Evil: Code Veronica X is the game that Resident Evil 3 wanted to be. This game feels like the ending of a trilogy, with all the loose ends of the previous games tied up. All storylines completed, and providing an excellent game of its own. The first of many things that will impress you here is the most excellent CG intro, something that I found myself repeatedly watching. From the outset you can tell this game has high production values. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X starts with Claire Redfield (who we met from Resident Evil 2), still searching for her brother Chris (who we know from Resident Evil 1) in a Paris Umbrella facility. However, she is captured and put into a cell on an island in the South Pacific, owned by Umbrella. However, as before Zombies begin to take over. It wasn't enough that Umbrella infected the Virus upon the masses in Raccoon City, now it's here too. Gameplay is similar to that of the previous games, although improvements have been made. There is better pacing, and more enemies. The graphics have been improved tremendously, thanks to an all new 3D engine. No longer are the backgrounds static. This allows for some really interesting and dynamic camera angles, and also shifting camera angles, really drawing you in. It's similar to that of Capcoms own Dino Crisis and it's camera, and Resident Evil fans who have been clamouring for a graphical update will be very pleased indeed. However, being Resident Evil, there are Zombies to fight, puzzles to solve, and a location to escape, namely, the island. You will find some sub characters, and even play the role of one at some key points, however for the most part you will be playing as Claire. Most definately, this is the longest Resident Evil game created, with several times I'm thinking how much longer will this go? The game world just seems to huge. Sound is excellent, with some griping music that will keep you on your toes, and may give you chills. It builds upon itself with the different situations that you will be faced in, and is a nice touch. All the effects are good, although seem like they have been ripped from the previous game. Overall, this is the best Resident Evil I have played, with some definate advantages over it's forefathers and bringing a close to earlier Chapters. Some of the problems that have existed in earlier games are present here, however, none so detrimental to impede progress, or bring down the high score and accolades that this game has achieved. Impressive.
