User Rating: 9.5 | Resistance 2 PS3
Resistance 2 is the second instalment in the series. This game continues the story from the first game Resistance: Fall Of Man. And is by far the best in the entire series. First let's start off with the single player campaign. it picks up from the point where (spoiler alert!) Nathan Hale, a soldier from the US assault on the chimera occupied Britain, manages to push the chimera out of London and save Britain. He is the last remaining solider from the US invasion and is seen walking away into the wilderness outside London. And is picked up by mysterious special
ops in back combat gear. He is told that they are the sentinels a special force that like Nathan Hale is infected by the Chimeran virus but seems to be retaining his human mind and spirit while having all the advantages of the chimera. From there he travels to Iceland where, surprise surprise! the chimera have already landed and have started to attack the Holar tower there.
From that point he travels to numerous locations in the US such as, Chicago, Idaho and Bryce canyon. In an effort to find out what the Chimera's intentions are and so it unfolds from there...
This game follows the typical FPS trend nowadays. You can carry two weapons, no health bar and of course GUNS! and lots of em' The selection of weapons you get in Resistance 2 is astounding. Ranging from a magnum that shoots explosive bullets which will detonate at the click of the R2 button, to a single shot break in type weapon that shoots enemies through walls with a deployable shields. Now you may be thinking "Jeezo! those guns are too overpowered *snort*" well that's where the selection of enemies you fight comes into play some of these enemies include, super awesome 800ft tall leviathan death gods, to predator type claw wielding beasts that are invisible and pounce at you at the very last second.
The boss battles to be fair are normally more of assault courses rather than run and gun style fight, except for the giant leaper. A prime example of this is the empire state building huge leviathan in Chicago which has you running from building to building timing the moments where you have to launch the rocket straight into its gaping black hole of a mouth.
Now... enough of the single player lets move onto probably the best part about the whole game. The immaculate multi player. the main features of this are 60 player squad based competitive and 8 player classed based co-op. the competitive features up to 30 versus 30 people doing objectives which include. Capture and hold the cores, and *sigh* capture the flag. there is also team death match and the most popular Skirmish mode which has each team divided into squads complete objectives before funnelling the battle into the centre of the map fro one epic climax! Now that we've got the Single player and the competitive modes out of the way lets move onto the best part of it the co op. I personally am a massive fan of this. the co op has you fight with up to 8 other people to fight the chimera in an alternate story to the single player. You choose from 3 classes Spec ops the dps , a stealthy sniper class that can turn invisible and is the only source on munitions to the team. The soldier which is the "tank" of the group with a huge Gatling gun, shield and has the biggest health bar and the medic the healer, these guys can drain life from enemies and heal other people with it, they also have an AOE heal ability. At the end of each encounter you fight a tough boss, ranging on difficulty depending on how good your team is. Once you kill this you get grey tech which can be used to buy new gear and weapons. All in all if you own a PS3 and love fps games this is the one for youuu!
