Resistance is the first FPS to hit the PS3, and it successfully showcases the power of Sony's platform.
Loading times are few and far between and normally only occur before missions. Insomniac Games does a great job of presenting Resistance during the 1950's WWII era, while at the same time including an alien invasion; creating an original, and at the same time unique feel to the gamer's mood. That being said Resistance features easy to navigate menus, and user-friendly online servers.
Graphically speaking, Resistance is a beautiful game(at the time of it's release) running smooth at a solid 30 frames per second. The environments are gorgeous, lighting effects are also crafted well. Character models are detailed and use natural and fluent motion while on the battlefield. Insomniac threw in a simple rag doll physics engine that makes for unconventional animation. Graphical glitches occur every once in a while and normally aren't the least bit significant.
As for the auditory aspect of Resistance, Sound effects are great. Gunfire and explosions alike will impress most people. Voice acting is top notch as well. The soundtrack on the other hand features basic military drum roll beats and is to be honest is corny for the most part.
Resistance has stellar first person shooter gameplay that many people can come to expect. Controls are simple to get the hang of and perform very well in combat. Resistance features a fair size arsenal of weapons at your disposal, all with their own unique strengths and abilities. I'm not going to lie the computer-controlled enemies come after you, and the come after you hard, making for a challenging journey to say the least. Boss battles are here and they're also difficult which makes the player feel a sense of accomplishment following their downfall.
Online multiplayer is fun and includes an abundant amount of game types and maps. the maps could be larger though, especially when you have up to 40 players a game, which means there is a lot of action going on which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And even to this day lots of people are making their way online.
What we have here is a lengthy campaign mode loaded with lots of extras and goodies and a handful of difficulty levels. The multiplayer alone will keep you coming back for ages. Resistance is an excellent shooter in general and sets the bar for FPS games.
