Rez at it's very core is a simple fun shooter when it comes to it's game play. You're on a rail and you have a targeting reticle in which you can lock on to up to 8 enemies by holding the button and releasing it. Now in this day and age of gaming that may seem boring and redundant but it's presentation more than makes up for it. The story is that world is handled by a super computer "Eden" but when it questions it's own existence it shuts itself down and you play as a hacker who is sent to hack each area of the system to find Eden and reactivate her. This computer world that the game is set in is really what makes Rez so remarkable. The graphics are 3D but have an old arcade style to them and everything is bright and a joy to look at every enemy you bring down yeilds a fantastic light show and the environments ebb and flow to one of the best soundtracks in any game. The music has a very trance/techno feel to it and while music in the background plays as you destroy enemies it also causes sound effects that fit perfectly in with the music and the better you are the more intense the musical and visual experince is. While you can beat the game in one sitting easy the replay value of the "play" (story mode) is very high to get better shot down rates and there are tons to things to unlock and some of the unlockables require tall orders so this game will keep you busy and you will enjoy every moment of it! There really is nothing like Rez even after 6 years of being on the shelves there is nothing that you can really compare this game to so if you can find Rez it is an easy recommendation to all PS2 owners!
