Rhapsody is a solid, well done, and fun JRPG, but is a little too lightweight, cliche, and easy for my taste.
Don't get me wrong -- Rhapsody is actually very well done. It has beautiful hand-drawn sprites and scenery, a ton of cute characters, great musical score, and a very immersive game world.
The problem is that the game never really goes any where... combat starts easy and stays easy. I spend almost every combat segment hitting the "auto" button to have the game's turn-based battles carry on without me, because there's really no challenge or need for combat strategy. The story is very... erm... "little girl"... which I realize is the point. But there's only so much swooning over a little cartoony prince that I can tolerate. The level grinding dungeons are pretty repetitive, and become very dull very quickly -- you do encounter new monsters in each dungeon, but you'll "fight" them over and over and over... you'll generally get the strategy for each worked out in one battle, until you level up, then no strategy is necessary. I found the plot to be just very bland and uninteresting, and the character interaction a bit too fluffy for my style of gaming.
For folks that want a light, fun, and easy adventure. it's a nice choice. For those wanting a deeper adventure, keep on looking...
