It's a start!
Game producers insist too much on graphics lately, on special effects (that more than often hurt the eye rather than please it) and less on the story-atmosphere of a game, that special feeling that somehow you belong in that game's universe, like you truly "live the world"...
While this particular atmosphere is not quite what I was expecting from this game, still I could say that for me at least RotA is the best game story of 2008.
The combat interface could have been way more improved and the special abbilities granted by the gods could also have been reduced to fewer, more practical ones...
Despite what many people say, I believe that voice acting is decent enough. Jason's voice is that of a natural, wise leader, not of a cruel barbarian and that is good. It's so good for the main character of a game to have a voice of his/her own!!! Again, not many games excel at this chapter...
The difficulty level involved in some unique fights (Achilles, Pelias) leaves room for improvement. It's more like luck is involved than actual strategy and the hits tend to hit chaotically all over but on the target...
There are some great, impressive, epopeic moments in the game, like the one when you meet Prometheus. Such great acts and decisions are (again) rarely found in games...
Overall, I think RotA deserves its place through the best games of 2008 and with its unique, superbly acted story among the best tales of all time.
