Succeeds brilliantly, where the Gothic 3 expansion failed miserably. Heir to the Gothic Throne.

I enjoyed the Mage class very much. Had a lot of depth to it. The english voice acting was very good in my opinion. Combat worked great for casting and staff fighting. I like how neutral it starts out and it takes awhile to figure out which group you really want to align with. Could make for good replayability.

My only con is whatever they are using for copy protection. It would often falsely tell me my disc was not the original. Had to give up trying to play it on my desktop and switch to my laptop on an HDMI display with wireless keyboard and mouse.

I think the new Gothic 4 is by the guys that did the awful Gothic 3 expansion. I'll have to keep an eye out for what the Risen Team is going to put out in the future. Those Germans can make some cool games alright.

Oh yeah, unlike the Gothic games that seem to really need Windows XP, Risen runs fine on Vista 64-bit.
