I had to write a review on a C64 game.
Robocop 2
Based on the movie. The C64 version of Robocop 2 is a simple side scrolling game which requires you to collect nukes, arrest suspects and kill bad guys to complete the level. Requiring an number of nukes and suspects allows you to the next level.
The difficulty of the game does provide a challenge to some as later levels are littered with platforms which effect the way Robocop moves. Mechanics such as magnets which pick Robocop up and transport him into another locations and a reserve platform which alters the way you move are some of the things you may come across.
If you're lucky, you'll be able to find secret locations which are littered with nukes and can ultimately improve your performance in levels.
If you fail to complete the objectives in level, you'll have a better time in the shooting range… which will only appear twice in the entire game, which allows you to improve your performance, it no where near the punishment to the level of the game, however it's fun because you're in first person mode and you're moving the cursor around shooting cardboard figures, however with the later level which are hard as hell, it's useful to save those moments.
The graphics for the C64 game are clear and they do set the mood to the area that you're in, compared to the other futures, it's not as strong, however it does take the C64 hardware well and performs and does present a good set of graphics along with good framerate.
The sound also is good for C64 and compared to other games and does take the hardware limitation well. The only music in the game would be the title screen and game over screen. The levels have no music and get littered with sound effects when the action gets intense.
As it's a side scrolling shooting game, it only standout point is that it's Robocop scrolling from level to level, back in the day it was amazing, however unless something big comes out which will strengthen Robocop reputation then it will be worth while to play this game. The gameplay does hold well as whole levels really do give you a battering and if you're a hardcore Robocop fan, you must play this game.
Also this game is a lot better then the Robocop game that came out for the XBOX which was $50. You'll be a lot better playing this game instead.
