It's barely better than the movie!
Pros:
You can set the number of lives between 1-3 and continues between 0-2, and you have 3 difficulty settings. So you can play the game on hard with 1 life and no continues, great for speedruns and hardcore gamers.
You have a good variety of weapons: You start with the pistol, but will end up using a pistol that can shoot 3 bullets on 3 directions, a laser, a flamethrower(from the movie) and powerful missiles. You'll have enough weapons and ammo to get through every level as well, and your gonna need them.
The controls take some getting used to, but you'll master them.
Ok graphics, not amazing, but not too terrible
You can fly in 2 stages like in the movie with a jetpack and breaks away from the on foot sections
It's short, it takes less than an hour to beat
Cons: Oh boy, this is where the fun begins
The music is AWFUL. I mean, you hear the same songs over and over again, and it doesn't sound good. There's 1 for the on foot sections, 1 for the flying sections and 1 for the boss sections. Give us more variety or make it sound good. Sound effects aren't too great either.
Poor level designs because it feels boring playing these levels, there's not one level that's fun in the slightest, I know it's a old game, but come on, the Contra games had better level designs than this.
Your slow movement makes the levels in the on foot sections even worse. We all know Robocop is slow, but come on, he moved faster in the 1st Robocop game in the arcade, he moved at a pretty good speed for his weight, here his movement will annoy and frustrate you when you want to dodge enemy fire. I am dead serious, there are some enemies you can't avoid until you shoot them before they shoot you and you must be quick and they take many bullets depending on your weapon, happens a lot.
It is probably one of the hardest games ever made, I kid you not. Sure, it has a easy mode, but some enemies can take all of your health down in 3 seconds. I'm still not kidding, mainly the robot enemies will do that because your big size makes it hard to avoid them. There are many spots in the game that will have you throwing your controller, your TV and this game out of the window. Enemies will attack you before you see them coming, it happens all the time, and you must duck under their fire to protect yourself. But some enemies will already be crouching before you know it, so you must either crouch and shoot or jump. It's not easy as it sounds, you have to be quick with a big and slow character, or else you'll die within a few seconds if your not careful. This game doesn't mess around.
Boss battles are still hard on easy(and putting it on hard is nearly suicide). You know the 1st boss in videogames are suppose to be easy right? Well, it's the total opposite: The 1st boss is probably the hardest boss in the game. I am serious, you can't make one mistake in a battle against numerous troops or else they'll be all over you before you know it. The bosses get harder even on easy of course, but the fight against the robot ninja(s) aren't that hard, but you have to be quick though. And they still do a lot of damage on easy and normal, what the heck, I'm not playing hard mode you know. Bosses can be cheap as well.
Why have a easy mode if the game is hard even on easy(normal and hard are harder of course)? It's because there are more ammo and health packs to get in the levels, and the higher difficulty settings has less ammo and health packs and more enemies to deal with. This game should have one difficulty setting if it's going to be this hard, not 3.
The flying sections are broken and tedious. If you stay in the middle area where you simply must shoot and dodge enemies, DON'T. You don't move that fast and many enemies will shoot you at once, so I would rather be at the end on one side and move up and down to avoid enemy fire until you get to the boss. It's actually the easiest parts of the game, but of course, you have to dodge that enemy fire. Those 2 flying levels are unplayable because their not fun and there's no point in being in the middle(besides powerups and health), but your mostly unlikely going to survive in the middle though.
Weird order of the levels. Only level 1(city at night), level 5(flying level) and level 6(fighting 2 robots) are in the right order when it comes to matching the movie. But levels 2-4 are not in the right order. Level 2(city at day) should be level 3, level 3(flying level) should be level 4, and the church and sewer(level 4) should be level 2. Why make it like that, imagine if you brought this game before seeing the movie, your going to be like "that wasn't in the game" and "that wasn't in the movie".
Also, your enemies. Robocop only fought 3 robot ninjas in black suits, even though they wear white in this game(and he fought 1 in a warehouse, not the church and sewer). Why does he fight so many robots that aren't in the movie? How can rats do more damage than guys in gray suits with missiles and lasers, and why do the rats want to kill him?
Robocop dies from jumping off high heights. His suit is made of hard metal(or steel) that can take a beating, how is that possible?
In conclusion, this whole game is a cruel joke. If it were more like the 1st Robocop game in the arcade(or even the 2nd one in the arcade for the matter), it would had been good, but no, Acclaim made it, don't expect it to be good. This game is as bad, if not worse, than the movie as well. If you like games that frustrate you, go ahead, play it, but if you don't want to lose your sanity, avoid it at all cost(don't download it off the internet or buy it), you'll thank me later.
