It's a cool trip down memory lane. But in the way, you'll run into not so great memories...

User Rating: 7.3 | Robotech: Battlecry XBOX
Robotech has been around forever. Almost as long as Mobile Suit Gundam if I'm not mistaken. It is a legend. And game developers know it. So what do they do about it once they nab the license? Yep, they make a game as quickly as possible...

There have been quite a few good games with the Macross name. MAcross is the other name Robotech shares. I played a whole bunch of the NES game and I really enjoyed knowing of a new game made for the current-gen consoles.

So, you wanna know if Battlecry is worth your cash? In short, if you're a fan of the series, go ahead and get it, stop reading this and buy it used or new if you can find it somewhere. Now, if you don't know your veritech from your typical battloid, it's worth renting to be sure.

The game offers the classic forms from the cartoon and comic series. You can either take it to the skies in the veritech plane mode and have normal flying controls, dog fights and all the typical gameplay; the robot mode, the one that can be used to have concentrated fire; or you can take it to the ground and fight enemy forces in the combo mode, as I call it, a kind of walking/flying tank that let's you fight ground based units and combines the strenghts of the other two forms.

The graphics in the game take a cue from your cartoon conversion to games formula, it's the now-super-hyper-mega over-used cell-shading techinique. It looks nice up close and reminds you a lot of the cartoon if you had a choice to watch it.

What makes the game not so enjoyable all the time is the fact that the controls don't respond well to input and you'll just be mad at the fact that the battloid mode sucks compared to the normal plane mode.

You'll feel just like in the cartoon with the voice-acting, some actors make a return and if you watched it in English (like I haven't) you'll probably recognize someone there.

Robotech: Battlecry is a cool game with nice ideas, but ultimately frustrates the more short-attention spanned people. If you have patience, you'll enjoy it.
