I can't believe I picked this game in favor of Metroid. I'm a huge Fan of Robotech so I took a chance on this one blind. Anyway here's my experience:

The graphics are great. They capture the feel of the show. Infact when you here the Robotech Theme Song play as the splash screen comes up you'll definitely fell all warm and gooey inside. The story is told through a series of well drawn snap shots. The voiceover work during these segments is not too shabby. Sadly that is all that is good in this game.

The main problem is the game play. Why oh why could they not have made this like Starfox? During aerial mission I can't even tell if my fighter is moving. In fact if you look at the backdrop/land marks below, you'll notice they never change. Say you start over an island, guess what? No matter how much you boost, loop-de-loop, whatever you're always going to be over that same island! All the aerobatics that you can perform are useless once again because it never feels like you're moving. Heck Sega's Afterburner (Old school arcade game) had a greater sense of speed/movement than this game.

City Battles are much better. While once again the Character is very slow, atleast there is a sense of movement. The funny thing is if you switch to fighter mode in the city all of a sudden you get a rush of speed. If only the actual aerial levels were like that! Unfortunately the fighter is useless in the city. I managed to pull of a few "rush at enemy with fighter launch missles in face" moves that were cool but loop-de-loops and barrel rolls are out of the question since you'll hit an obstacle (Including the edge of a level and a very low sky) and change back to droid. To top it off the game does not use any music from the series in the game itself. The in-game music sucks.

I just can't understand why they guys screwed up so bad when precedents already exist that would have made each mode more fun to play. All they had to do was take those genres and combing them and the game would have been a lot better.

Very disapointing :(
