The game is based upon the film Robots, and that’s the only thing that’s going to make this game sell, because the gameplay is dull and unimaginative. As with the film, Rodney Copperbottom heads into the city to sell his inventions but stumbles across an evil plot to have him killed. I haven’t actually seen the film yet but that story line is nearly as bland as this game so I’m having my doubts over the film now. The visuals are decent. The developers actually did put some effort in, although the game plays in a 2D way the sprites have good 3D effects, but the backgrounds and scenery in the game are plain and boring, they have no variation either. The frame transitions are nice and smooth but the boring backgrounds really kill it off. On the whole it’s a shame because it could have been so much better, but we’ll give credit because they at least tried to throw in some 3D effects. At least it looks allot better than the GBA version (Despite the fact the 2 games are pretty much identical), and also the DS version has some nice looking menus. Licence games normally have one area where they’re great, and that is sounds. In this case either the sounds in the movie are bad or they just made completely new sounds for the game. Seriously, the music is dull and boring, it’s not bad enough for you to turn the sound off but you would expect some good music on a game based off a film. There’s not that much else to say in sounds, you have the odd average sound effect thrown in and that’s about it. At the end of the day it could have been worse, but we still feel bitterly disappointing. Innovation is seriously lacking in this titles gameplay, you have your bog-standard 2D side-scrolling platformer (3D-ish though, like the DS’s version of Spider-man 2). It’s nothing we haven’t seen before and it’s so repetitive. As with the Urbz this is simply a bumped up GBA version, the DS can do so much more, why keep the GBA version? A few maps etc have been put on the touch screen and that’s about all that’s changed. As I have already mentioned, this game is so repetitive, you have a series of upgradeable weapons and that’s about all that changes throughout the gameplay, everything else is the same, it’s as boring as watching paint dry at times and I’m not just saying that. Walk from A to B, kill anything in the way (Did I mention there’s not even that many bad guys?), rinse, repeat. I suppose I have to say one good thing about the gameplay; The way the levels are set out is quite good, like Castlevania and some of the GBA Metroid’s it’s a proper 2D map which is amazingly quite nice. In between the platforming levels you have challenges like racing to the finish line, I have honestly never seen such garbage in my life, it feels so rushed and it’s blatantly obvious that it needs at least a good few months more in development - and that‘s just the problem with this game, when playing it you just get the feeling that the developers have simply rushed it. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not at all impressed. Lots of kids will buy this game, they’ll play it for ten minutes get bored and then go watch their older brother playing something better (It‘s not hard to find a better DS platformer with Rayman DS and Mario 64 DS on the market). Age doesn’t matter here, this game will bore anyone to the point where you start to lose your mind. The game offers no replay value at all, the majority of people will get so bored they wont even finish it anyway! The developers have thrown in the odd break from platforming (as mentioned in the above paragraph) in a hope to increase lifespan, they failed miserably. It’s boring, dull and bland, it’s a title that will no doubt sell well because of the name, but in reality is total junk. You have read the review now, just take my word for it and don’t buy this. It doesn’t matter what age you are, what genres your into, this game will always be a pile of junk. It’s not worth half the Retail the price, to be honest if I saw it for a fiver I probably wouldn’t buy it. If you see anyone about to buy this game in the shops please stop them and direct them to a good platforming title like Super Mario 64 DS and Rayman DS. The only thing this game is better than is Ping Pals, yep it’s just that bad.

Pro : Nice graphic. Cons: Worst game I've played on the DS. Controls are bad. Story not quite good. Bottom line: Try it if someone give it to you but don't spend a penny on this. It feels like Robocop for children. I'd... Read Full Review
