25 year guitar player review

User Rating: 9 | Rocksmith PS3
I picked up the new Rocksmith videogame for the PS3 Tuesday morning. I've been playing guitar for 25 years and am fairly accomplished. Overall, I'm very impressed with it. I never liked playing cover songs until now. This game really could revolutionize the way people learn how to play guitar!

I was able to correct my latency issues by connecting the PS3 analog out to an 18 year old dual cassette recorder boom box with RCA input jacks. I kept the video hooked up to the HDMI and then I muted the TV so the sound was all coming through the boom box.

I've have about 5 to 6 hours in on the game since I got it. The interface is great. It has re-invented sight-reading and has you playing a song that you have never even heard before, the first or second time through. (Probably a bit longer for the beginner and novice guitar player) This beats the hell out of trying to read tiny tab and play along with a CD to learn a cover song. After I got the interface figured out, I got quite proficient at each song after about 4 times playing through it.

I really hope this game is a success and starts to offer DLC songs. It would also be cool to be able to rock out with your friends online. I know they mentioned that if the game does well, they would look into to adding bass guitar support. I would be cool to hook up the Rock Band Drum Kit to it, as well.
