An excellent RPG with many side quests and a great storyline.

It's good to see some quality RPG's still being produced on the PS2 even with the PS3 around. This game is definately one of the better RPG's I have played this year.

The story goes like this: You play as Jasper Rouge who is an orphan, raised by Raul, a priest who is more than what he seems. The game starts off with Jasper fighting to defend his Hometown of Saigen on the plant Rosa. Along the way he is mistaken for a great warrior named Desert Claw and is taken aboard a Pirate ship. On this ship he meets a variety of characters which join your party and your journey is on it's way.

During the game you can control 8 different characters, each with their own style of fighting and weapons. Of course each character has their own private story which is somehow tied into the main story of the game. There are 2 types of weapons, a main and a sub. The main weapon is the stronger of the two and normally a melee type whereas the Sub is normally a long distance type. One of the good things about this game is that you have to use each weapon and upgrade them by filling up the skills bar. Once the skills bar is at max you can fuse 2 weapons together (same type of course) and create a stronger higher level weapon. This ability is great for leveling up because fighting enemies not only gives your EXP but raises your skills bar. So it's twice the bonus for spending the time to fight enemies. There is another bonus to spending time fighting enemies and that is the beast hunting quests. If you defeat a certain number of each enemy you get hunter points which raise your hunters level which can give you many bonus items and weapons throughout the game. Also, you can purchase contracts on mini boss type beasts which give you massive points and more bonus items. It's not that easy thought because you have to have certain items in order to even get the beasts to come out. Makes for a good side quest type mission. As for the game itself, the story grows with each planet you visit and soon you can soon travel from planet to plant at your leasure. You have to find out about all the ruins on each planet in order to find the legendary planet of Mariglenn. This planet holds the Mother of all Rune which is what is making all the monsters appear on all the worlds. The dungeon and planet design is amazing and very detailed. Each area is huge and makes for a lot of exploring and treasure hunting. There are plenty of items and weapons to find throughout each world. Another good thing about this game is the Revolution Flow which allows you to place items into a large grid which enables you to obtain new abilities, stronger higher level abilities and better defenses and attacks. Each character has a specific grid that needs specific items to place. Many of these items are rare and hard to find which makes searching for all treasures and hunting all monsters all the more neccessary.

Overall this game was a lot of fun to play and definately worth the time. The fighting is live action and the smooth controls make this a real joy to play. This would be a great addition to your PS2 RPG library.
