Easily in the Top 5 best RPG's on the PS2
The graphics in Rogue Galaxy are amazing for the PS2. They no doubt push the system to it's limits. The cel shading is the best I have ever seen. The CGI movies are beyond incredible. Each world is very detailed, and very different, although all of the dungeons have a different look to them, they are overly repetive in design. The character models and details are excellent. Some of the NPC's such a Mio, among others look rather good as well. As a whole, the graphics are subperb.
The music and voice acting in the game are both done rather well. As with most RPG's, the battle music gets a bit repetive, but in Rogue Galaxy, it's not to the point of being annoying. Boss music, and level music are well done, and fit the mood of the game. The voice acting is well done. It's the script that is a bit cliche' but not to the point of being silly. The story is interesting enough.
The gameplay in Rogue Galaxy is addictive to say the least. The action orientated battle system is excellent in my opinion. The only time I would get a bit bored with it throughout the game was near the end of a dungeon. I would just be anxious to fight the boss. I love the weapon combination element of the game. It prevented combat from getting too tedious because I always wanted to battle more to see what the next weapon combination would look like.
Overall, Rogue Galaxy is not a game to miss for RPG or action RPG lovers. I really haven't cared much for Level 5's other work. I do not like the Dark Cloud games at all. They're too repetitive and boring in my opinion, but Rogue Galaxy manages to keep things fresh to the point that you never want to give up. Rogue Galaxy destroys Final Fantasy 12 when it comes to the fun factor. I never felt like I was enjoying the gameplay of Final Fantasy 12, but loved roughly %90 of my time with Rogue Galaxy.(%10 was me hating the last portion of each dungeon..Damn your repetitive caverns!!)
I hope my review was helpful.
