Of course, not even close to the same league as the FF series, but still a fun RPG.
For the serious review...
Gameplay: Now, as an action-RPG, this game is of course going to be weak in the gameplay field. Although it has some very good RPG elements, ex. weapon synthesis, well-done lvl system, and weapon lvling-up, many of these have been done before in the past with previous installments of the FF series (I know I'm probably focusing to much on what it could've been, but I rate RPG's harshly). I do highly appreciate the attention given to RPG element's, since this game is an RPG. The battles let you take a party of three into battle, nothing new so far, however certain chars. can unleash combo's with only certain other chars. Yes, this game is in real-time battles, and encounters occur on the same map as you move, yet are still random. Since I'm not too far in, just far enough to review it, I don't wanna say anything about the chars. or story, mainly because I don't know enough about them yet. I will say this, however. You play as Jaster Rouge, a young boy who happens to dwell on the desert planet known as Rosa. You soon encounter monsters attacking your hometown, and meet a hooded man with a fabled sword who helps you out... for a moment. He gives you his weapon, the Desert Seeker. You soon meet two people searching for someone known as the "Desert Claw", who you are led to believe is the hooded man you encountered earlier. You eventually go along with the alias of this Legendary Bounty Hunter, and are recruited onto a space ship, all because you were in the right place at the right time. With the Desert Seeker in hand, you travel across the galaxy, doing multiple tasks as a member of a well-known space-pirate group.
Graphics: Very well-done anime inspired graphics. RPG's aren't supposed to focus too much on graphics if they want to achieve a good game (the downfall of the extremely overrated Oblivion). With these anime-inspired graphics, it adds a nice touch to the game.
Sound: As far as I am, which again, isn't very far, I haven't noticed any problems, however very few things stand out in my mind.
Value: High. I've heard if this game on GameSpot as "a reason to still own a PS2." I agree.
My Tilt: High. Yeah, really can't further explain it. It's definitely worth playing.
