Far better than any budget shooter has a right to be.
So I was stoked when I heard Rebellion was bringing Rogue and his chip buddies to life. Then not so stoked when I saw the reviews for their first game Judge Dredd vs Death. Apparently that game was big time bad.
To my surprise Rogue fared better. Not so much with professional reviews, but with player reviews. You can now add me as one of those who give this game a thumbs up.
Rebellion did a great job of staying true to the Rogue Trooper universe. The story plays right out of the comic and the characters are spot on, right down to the various enemies and equipment that are thrown at you. The gameplay is just right. I played on hard and found it to be challenging, but not to the point you want to throw the gamepad through the tv screen.
The arsenal of weapons Rogue possesses are great and the chip buddies do exactly what you expect them to do. Helm does the hacking, Bagman does the building and replenishing of ammo and supplies and Gunnar, well, he helps you shoot!
My only beef is the camera. Occasionally I fell off a ledge because of the camera, but it didn't happen often.
Overall, this was a great 3rd person shooter albeit a tad short. I finished it in about 10 hours. I wish there was a sequel coming, but I'm not holding my breath. Well worth picking up. You should find it in the budget bin for 10 bucks or less.
