In one word: abhorable.

User Rating: 1.3 | Rollerblade Racer NES
Gameplay- Rollerblade Racer allows you to perform "tricks" on courses similar to that of Paperboy. You must use these tricks to score enough points to make it to the final competition. The problem with these "tricks" is that you will sustain injury every time you fail. Sustain three of these injuries and you lose a life. Lose three lives and you get a game over complete with a safety tip like "always remember to wear protective gear" or "remember to pay for broken property." After this you are given the choice to continue. No matter what buttons you press, you will continue the game. You start the game again and perform more "tricks." These "tricks" can be performed by frantically pushing the A and B buttons on the controller. It seems whenever I try to do a "trick" I end up falling down. This is due to the massive control delay which ensures that you fail before you are ever done performing a "trick." The best way for me to score points and beat the game was to jump repeatedly. There are also bonus levels between the games four levels that allow you score more points for the final competition. This just seemed to be another way to get hurt and get a game over. In the event that you do not have enough points after you make it past the final level (full of babies that throw thier bottles at you and dogs that try to bite you), you will not be able to finish the game. It will merely reset itself. Story- I have read the instruction booklet many times and am still unsure what the plot of this game is but I'll give it a stab. "Thanks for playing this game dude!". This was the opening remark on the booklet which seems to be the motivating factor (being thanked by the instructions), because I really do not see any other reason to play. Without spoiling the game too much(~sarcasm~), I will try to give an overview of the story. Your character has rollerblades. Your character enters a competition. Your character goes through the games four mighty levels, scoring points in hope to make it to the championship. Your character enters the championship... But does he win??? Graphics/Sound- The game only has one 6 second jingle that is repeated throughout the entire game. There are sound effects when you are injured and when you jump. This is akin to that of an Atari 2600 game. The games graphics left me wondering whether or not I was supposed to be the man or the woman holding hands on the front cover. You could say it leaves a large area for improvement. Play Time/Replayability- It is possible to beat the game in five minutes if you continuously press the A button on the controller and hold forward on the control pad.I see no reason to ever replay it. Final Recommendation- A blunder of an extreme sports game. -Geusprime
