old school, new look and features

A lot of players stick to XI's prequel because the game is just so gosh darn difficult even on its normal difficulty. If you enjoy a good challenge to the wits and pacing skills of a long, tedious strategy game, Romances of the Three Kingdoms XI is the game for you. Create a character has twice the number of features in X, not to mention the free roaming look of the map compared to X's "straight road traveling." The map of XI has quite an elegant feel and the satisfaction of taking your foes' lands never gets old. And if they take your land, expect a certain thirst of revenge towards your competitors. It's more difficult to make friends and win generals over in your quest for expansion so don't expect a lot of officers to convert once you've captured them. Even your family may choose against you with the right circumstances, such as marriage to another officer that had traded sides. The old trick of destroying one's dynasty and then recruiting the officers that you yourself had previously laid off so they become, "free officers," are still in place. Special items, advanced skills and tactics still perk up the fun whether you're debating, dueling, raging war or simply beefing up your cities. Overall, I give the game a 9.
